KIDS TAEKWONDO
Kids Taekwondo Program
Developing Discipline, Skill, and Confidence Through Structured and Progressive Training
A Structured Approach to Skill Development and Growth
The US Taekwondo Institute Kids Program is designed for children ages 5 to 11. At this stage, students are ready for a more structured and progressive approach to training that continues to build confidence, discipline, and focus.
Our program is designed to balance fun with discipline, allowing students to enjoy the learning process while developing respect, accountability, and strong work habits that carry over into school and everyday life.
As children grow, so does their ability to understand more complex movement patterns and training concepts. Our curriculum is built with an understanding of long-term athletic development, helping students improve coordination, timing, reaction, and body control while continuing to build strength, flexibility, and overall physical fitness.
Curriculum
The US Taekwondo Institute Kids Program includes both traditional (Kukkiwon) and Olympic style (WT) Taekwondo fundamentals.
Beginner students are introduced to core techniques, including basic commands, blocks, stances, and kicks, along with their first Taekwondo form. As students develop proficiency in fundamental movements, they are gradually introduced to controlled sparring.
This progression is intentional. Students first build the coordination, balance, and control needed to safely and effectively apply techniques before engaging in partner-based training.
As students advance through the belt ranks, they learn more complex kicks, additional forms, and increasingly sophisticated sparring strategies. Each promotion level requires mastery of specific techniques and forms, ensuring consistent progress and skill development.
Class Structure and Training
Classes are 50 minutes in length and are led by multiple black belt instructors to ensure a high level of supervision and individual attention.
New students receive 2 to 3 private introductory sessions during regular class times. These sessions are designed to help them learn the foundational movements and expectations of the program before fully integrating into group classes.
On designated training days, classes focus specifically on sparring development. During these sessions, students work on reaction drills, timing, distance management, and controlled partner sparring. All sparring activities are closely supervised, with instructors providing real time feedback to help students develop both skill and strategy in a safe and structured environment.
Class Activities
Classes include a variety of activities designed to develop both technical skill and athletic ability. While each class may look slightly different, all training is structured as part of a larger progression to ensure balanced development over time.
Depending on the focus of the training cycle, classes may emphasize power, speed, technique, coordination, or strategy. This approach keeps students engaged while ensuring they continue to improve across all areas of performance.
A typical class may include:
- Dynamic warm up and stretching
- Paddle kicking drills
- Bag work for power development
- Sparring strategy and controlled application
- Agility and obstacle course training
- Reaction and timing drills
- Relay races and games to improve coordination and speed
- Form practice based on belt level
Benefits
Children receive a wide range of physical and personal development benefits through Taekwondo training, including:
- Development of self-discipline and self-control
- Improved focus and concentration
- Increased self-confidence through skill development
- Respect and courtesy toward others
- Leadership and goal setting skills
- Improved strength, flexibility, and coordination
- Enhanced reaction time and athletic performance
- Practical self-defense skills
An additional benefit many parents notice is improved focus and performance in school. As students develop better listening skills, discipline, and accountability, these habits often carry over into the classroom. We value academic success and maintain communication with parents to support each child's overall development.
