Preschool Taekwondo Program

Building Focus, Coordination, and Confidence Through Structured Early Development

A structured introduction to Taekwondo focused on early development

The US Taekwondo Institute Preschool Program is designed specifically for children ages 3 to 5. At this stage of development, it is important to introduce Taekwondo in a way that is both fun and structured.

Our program reinforces the same values children are learning at home, including respect, good manners, listening skills, and following directions. These foundational habits play an important role in a child’s future success in school and in life.

Students are introduced to the fundamentals of Taekwondo, including basic commands, blocks, stances, and kicks, all taught in an engaging and supportive environment that keeps young learners motivated.

While many activities may look like games, each exercise is purposefully designed to support early childhood development. Our curriculum is built with an understanding of how young athletes develop physically and cognitively. These activities help improve body control and awareness (proprioception), balance, and coordination, while also contributing to the development of stronger bones, ligaments, and tendons during these critical growth years.

Program Benefits

At an early age, development is not just physical, but behavioral and cognitive as well. Our program is designed to build foundational skills that support both movement and learning.

Children in our Preschool Program develop:

  • Discipline
  • Self control
  • Coordination
  • Focus
  • Self confidence
  • Physical fitness

Parents often notice improvements in listening, behavior, and confidence within the first few weeks of training.

A Structured Approach to Development, Focus, and Growth

Because young children have shorter attention spans, classes are structured to be 45 minutes in length to maximize engagement and learning. Students attend classes three times per week, allowing for consistent development while still providing adequate rest and time for other activities.

At this stage, classes do not include sparring or contact drills with other students. Our focus is on building strong fundamentals, coordination, and control first. Young children are still developing the ability to understand timing, distance, and strategy, so we prioritize the skills that prepare them for success before introducing partner contact.

As students develop the ability to focus for longer periods and work within a larger group setting, they will be invited to transition into our Kids Program, where more advanced training elements are introduced.
