Katelyn Cruz Wins Puerto Rico Team Trials

Katelyn Cruz earned a spot on the Puerto Rico National Team as Team A in the senior -49 kg division after winning her place through senior-level competition.

Her achievement is the result of a long term progression within the national team system. Before entering the senior division, Ms. Cruz competed in both the cadet and junior divisions, where she earned a place on the national team five times. As a senior athlete, her first year did not result in qualification. She earned a position on Team B the following year and secured Team A this season through competitive performance.

Earning a place on Team A guarantees Ms. Cruz the opportunity to represent Puerto Rico at the Central American and Caribbean Games Qualifier in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, and the Pan American Championships in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Her journey reflects sustained commitment, competitive resilience, and continued development across multiple age divisions.
